Our Staff

Our staff is comprised of dedicated community members who share a passion for strengthening PEI’s Black communities.

Ujunwa Aja-Onu (Ujay) is a project manager and development professional with over 10 years of experience in program design, implementation, and stakeholder engagement across nonprofit and institutional settings.

Prior to joining the Early Childhood Development Association of PEI (ECDA), she served as Project Manager for the Cleantech Academy at Holland College,  coordinating  collaborative initiatives between academia, government, and industry. She has also worked with international development organizations, including ActionAid and Oando Foundation in Nigeria, where she contributed to community-based programs focused on education and social impact.

Ujunwa holds a Master’s degree in Island Studies from the University of Prince Edward Island and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria. She is deeply passionate about mental health, community development, and advancing equitable opportunities for immigrant and BIPOC communities.

An inspirational writer and community advocate, Ujunwa brings a thoughtful, strategic, and people-centered approach to her work. She lives in Charlottetown with her husband, Adaberemchi, and their three children.

Reequal Smith is a multidisciplinary artist, community leader, and cultural advocate based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. She currently serves as Program and Events Coordinator with the Black Cultural Society of PEI and sits on the boards of the PEI Fringe Festival and Fusion Charlottetown, contributing to the growth of arts, culture, and community engagement across the province.

As Founder and Artistic Director of Oshun Dance Studios, a Black-owned dance company in PEI, Reequal has established herself as a dynamic performer, choreographer, fire dancer, and educator. Originally from The Bahamas, she holds a BA in Marketing and is a graduate of Holland College’s School of Performing Arts, where she specialized in Dance Performance. With more than eight years of professional performance experience, including collaborations with leading Junkanoo Carnival artists, she has performed and collaborated in festivals, music videos, documentaries, and television productions throughout the region. Her first solo work, Unfold, premiered in partnership with Mayworks, Live Art Dance, and Prismatic Festival in Halifax.

Through her artistic practice and community leadership, Reequal is dedicated to fostering cultural connection, creative expression, and collaboration, while bringing the vibrancy and richness of Caribbean culture to Prince Edward Island and beyond.
