Black History Month 2026

Always the highlight of our BHM programming, the Opening Celebration Gala is where we introduce the month’s theme, activities, and schedule and get the community excited about the month ahead. This year’s Gala, planned in partnership with Dreadboss Entertainment, will mark the 10th year of The Black Cultural Society of PEI celebrations! This dazzling event will feature a mouth-watering, three-course meal, performances by local performing artists in a variety of mediums, and remarks by prominent dignitaries and community members. Join us in your town as we travel across the Island to raise the Pan-African flag in various locations including Charlottetown, The Town of Three Rivers, Kensington, Borden-Carleton, Stratford, UPEI, Holland College, RCMP, Summerside and Cornwall. 

BCS will host the sixth annual Black Women  Empowered! Luncheon. Participants at  each luncheon will have the  opportunity to share and relate experiences,  knowledge, and ideas over a mouth-watering meal catered by T’s Jamaican Flavours.

BCS is proud to host the third annual Black Youth Engaged! Luncheon for ages 9-16.

Black Youth Engaged Luncheon – The Cultural Kitchen: In partnership with BIPOC USHR, this celebration of Afro-Caribbean and African food, culture, and community features workshops and discussions empowering Black youth through leadership, social justice, and self-expression.

Beyond the frame –  Sister Nancy- Bam Bam film screening (Feb 21st) Doors Open: 6:30 PM |Film Starts: 7:00 PM

As part of Black History Month, Beyond the Frame, in partnership with the Black Cultural Society of PEI, presents a community screening of Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story, a documentary celebrating the life and global impact of reggae icon Sister Nancy, the first woman to record a dancehall DJ album. The screening is followed by a post-film mixer featuring old-school reggae and dancehall music, with food and prize giveaways. This event centers Black music, storytelling, and community, and invites audiences to celebrate Black history through film and shared connection.
