THE HISTORY OF THE BOG
Remembering, Documenting, Commemorating

The Black Cultural Society of PEI (BCSPEI) is inviting Black Islanders and Descendants of The Bog to help shape how Charlottetown’s historic Black neighbourhood is honoured and remembered. The Broader Island Community is invited to learn about The Bog and provide support.
The Bog was one of the earliest and most enduring Black settlements on Prince Edward Island, a neighbourhood of several hundred people in the heart of Charlottetown through most of the 1800s. Today, almost nothing marks its existence. That narrative is changing, and BCSPEI wants the community to lead the way.

── Complete a survey (open until September 25) ──
As part of our province-wide conversation on how The Bog should be commemorated, we’re inviting descendants of The Bog, Black Islanders, and the broader Island community to share their thoughts, memories, and ideas. Not everyone can make it to a town hall, and the surveys are another way to make your voice part of this.

Whether you are a Descendant of The Bog, a Black Islander, or a member of the Broader Island Community, your voice and perspective are welcome in this process. If you can’t attend a town hall, we encourage you to complete a survey and make your voice part of the conversation.
Nothing for the community, without the community.
We look forward to hearing from you, learning together, and ensuring The Bog’s history is meaningfully remembered for generations to come.
