The Courtside Black Culture Bursary presents a $1000 award (each) to three Black Prince Edward Island students annually to help defray post-secondary education costs. The Bursary is awarded based on the demonstrated financial need of the recipient, volunteer experience, extra-curricular involvement, and community service. Because this bursary prioritizes financial need, applicants must complete the Financial Need Section of the bursary application. All information submitted with the bursary application is treated as sensitive and confidential.
Courtside is a business that wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Black culture. Over the past year we’ve watched, listened, and continue to learn more about how serious a problem racism and inequity are in our society. Social issues can’t just be about a social media post or hashtag. Moving forward, we will further educate ourselves and be a positive force and role model when it comes to social justice. With this in mind, my wife and I have decided to create the Courtside Black Culture Bursary Fund. Starting in the 2021-2022 academic year, we will award three Black students who demonstrate financial need, community support and involvement, and leadership qualities with a $1,000 bursary. Full details on requirements and application will be shared through the Black Cultural Society of PEI.
