BCSPEI ART MURAL COMMISSION

Deadline for submissions: Friday August 20th, 2021, 11:59pm

The Black Cultural Society of PEI (BCSPEI) is seeking artist proposals for a mural commission project. The project goal is to showcase the talent of local Black artists by commissioning and installing up to four (4) murals which will be installed directly onto the walls within the BCSPEI office space.

We invite artists who are interested in submitting a proposal to schedule a time to visit our office to get an understanding of the space and the unique wall sizes and placements, and to get an idea of which wall they would like to use.

Proposals in a variety of mediums are welcome.

Selected artists will receive up to $1000 to cover their materials and artist fee. This amount could be subject to change based on the size of works and number of artists selected.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

This commission is open to any visual artists living on PEI who self-identify as Black/of African descent.

HOW TO APPLY (please read this entire section carefully):

Step 1 – Letter of Intent

  • Submit a letter of intent expressing your interest in submitting a proposal.
  • Your letter of intent should also include a brief description of your art practice and the medium you work in, and should answer the question: Why should your artwork be selected for this project?
  • Letters of intent should be submitted to info@bcspei.ca with the subject line: “Mural Commission LOI”. You may also submit your letter in person or by mail to:

Step 2: Office Visit

  • Schedule a visit to the BCSPEI office to get an understanding of the space and the unique wall sizes and placements, and to get an idea of which wall you would like to use.
  • You can schedule your visit either by email at info@bcspei.ca, or by phone at 902-367-3390.

Step 3: Proposal Submission

Proposals must be submitted by email to info@bcspei.ca. Please use the subject line: “Mural Commission Proposal”. Applications must include the following items:

  • Bio and artist statement (click this link to find out how to write an artist statement: https://thecreativeindependent.com/guides/how-to-write-an-artist-statement/
  • Detailed Project Proposal. You may want to consider the following questions: What will you create? What is the work about? What ideas inform it? What will your creative process be? What is your estimated timeline for completion (from design to installation).
  • List of materials needed to complete your mural.
  • Budget: how much will your mural cost to produce? Include only costs related to the purchase and shipment of materials, and costs related to the installation of your mural.
  • Examples of your previous work: include no more than 10 images that show the range of your art practice
  • *CV: list of accomplishments related to your art practice
  • *Other support material: any other relevant support materials such as press materials, reviews, or anything else you would like us to consider.

*Note: This call for submissions is open to artists at all levels of their career. If your career as an artist is in its early stages and you don’t yet have a CV or press materials, your submission will still be welcomed and considered.

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

BCSPEI ART ACQUISITION PROJECT

Deadline for submissions: Friday August 20th, 2021, 11:59pm

The Black Cultural Society of PEI is looking to support, and to showcase the talent of local Black artists through art acquisition. Currently, we aim to purchase works of art from at least 3 (three) artists. Upon purchase, these works will be installed for display in our office space in the Atlantic Technology Centre in Charlottetown.

Proposals in a variety of mediums are welcome.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

This call for Expressions of Interest is open to any visual artists living on PEI who self-identify as Black/of African descent.

HOW TO APPLY (please read this entire section carefully):

We invite artists to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to info@bcspei.ca using the subject line: “Art Acquisition EOI”. You may also submit your EOI in person or by mail to:

Your EOI must include the following items:

  • List of images. Please include a list of the images you are attaching to your submission. For each work on the list, please indicate the title, medium/materials used, the date (year) the work was created, a description, and the purchase price.
